What is the LGBTQ Purity Test?
The LGBTQ Purity Test is a list of 50 statements about things people have done, scored by subtraction: you start at 100, tick everything that has applied to you, and each tick takes 2 points off. The number left over counts the statements you did not tick, which is the whole of what it measures.
Nobody owns or certifies the list, no organisation maintains it, and it has never been validated as a measure of anything — what a purity test is and why there is no official version set out what is actually documented, which is less than the internet repeats.
How the LGBTQ Purity Test works
You start at 100. Every statement you check costs 2 points.
There is no weighting and no hidden algorithm: 50 statements, 2 points each, 100 minus what you checked. Check every one and you finish on 0. Check nothing and you keep the full 100. A low number means more of the list has happened to you, not that you did anything wrong.
What the number does not measure: it counts experiences you have had, so it says nothing about your character, your values, your health or how good a partner, friend or student you are. Whether it measures anything at all is a longer answer, and it is not flattering to the format.

Does this test score being LGBTQ?
No, and it is written so that it cannot. Not one of the 50 statements asks what you are — every line names something a person did: a first date, a march, a conversation with a parent, a night that ran late. Identity has no point value here because identity is not an experience, and a list that scored it would be measuring the wrong thing entirely.
What if I am not out?
The list still works, and your ticks stay on your device unless you turn on the sharing box above the button. Several of the 16 romance statements only happen once other people have been told — a partner meeting a parent, a partner at a family wedding — so if none of that has happened yet, those points simply stay where they are. That is worth saying plainly: a high score here often describes circumstances, timing or safety rather than anything about you, which is exactly why the number is not a ranking.
How is it different from the original Rice Purity Test?
The classic list is 100 items written on a university campus decades ago, and it assumes one shape of dating life throughout. This one is 50 items at 2 points each and assumes none: 16 on romance and family, 10 on Pride, bars and shows, 8 on apps and life online, and the rest on sex, drinking and the ordinary things everybody gets asked. The two scores are separate measurements and comparing them across lists means nothing.
What is a typical score on this list?
There is no target number, and the spread on a list like this one is wider than on the classic test for a structural reason: 16 of the 50 statements depend on other people knowing, and 10 depend on there being a scene near you. Someone in a city with a queer choir and an out family can tick twenty of those by twenty-five; someone in a town without either can be having exactly as full a life and score thirty points higher.
Why are there ordinary party and drinking questions on it?
Because a list made only of coming-out milestones would be a survey about being queer, not a purity test. The point of the format is that it counts a life, and most of a life is the same as anybody else's: a party where you knew one person, a drink too many, the night you were the one who got everyone home.
Is anything stored about my answers?
Nothing that could be traced to you. The checkboxes are scored by JavaScript on your own device; what is submitted is the final number and which test produced it, with no name, account, email or address kept beside it. 5 statements are explicit about sex, which is why the list is written for readers 18 and over.
What was deliberately left off
Three kinds of question were written and then cut: anything about health status, anything about being outed by somebody else, and anything that would be evidence about you if the screen were read over your shoulder. They were cut for the same reason — a purity test is a game, and a game has no business collecting the answers that cost people jobs, housing or family. Nothing here is worth that, so nothing here asks it.
