The original was written for university students and includes graphic sexual items and questions about hard drugs and arrests. This version keeps the same 0-100 scale and the same subtract-as-you-check arithmetic across 50 statements, but the explicit wording is gone and the questions stay inside what actually happens in high school. A score here is not directly comparable with a score from the 100-question version.

Teen scores cluster high for a structural reason rather than a moral one: the alcohol, drug and legal sections are the ones that pull a score down, and most 13-17 year olds have not reached them yet. That leaves the romance questions doing nearly all the work, so a few points separate people who have very different lives. The crush and dating questions alone account for 16 of the 50 statements, which is 32 points of the scale, so two people the same age can land far apart on that block by itself. The rest of the gap is usually that people answer these differently alone than they do out loud.

Yes, because leaving them out would make the score meaningless for anyone over about 15. They are asked plainly — whether you have had a drink, whether you have kissed someone — without the graphic detail the university version uses. Nothing in it describes an act you would not hear named in a health class.
