What is the Couples Purity Test?
The Couples Purity Test is a list of 50 statements about things people have done, scored by subtraction: you start at 100, tick everything that has applied to you, and each tick takes 2 points off. The number left over counts the statements you did not tick, which is the whole of what it measures.
Nobody owns or certifies the list, no organisation maintains it, and it has never been validated as a measure of anything — what a purity test is and why there is no official version set out what is actually documented, which is less than the internet repeats.
How the Couples Purity Test works
You start at 100. Every statement you check costs 2 points.
There is no weighting and no hidden algorithm: 50 statements, 2 points each, 100 minus what you checked. Check every one and you finish on 0. Check nothing and you keep the full 100. A low number means more of the list has happened to you, not that you did anything wrong.
What the number does not measure: it counts experiences you have had, so it says nothing about your character, your values, your health or how good a partner, friend or student you are. Whether it measures anything at all is a longer answer, and it is not flattering to the format.

How do two people take this test together?
Open it on separate phones, answer all 50 statements without looking at each other's screen, then put the two numbers side by side. Answering in the same room but on your own device is the point: reading the list out loud changes what people admit to. Comparing which sections moved your scores is more interesting than comparing the totals.
What does a big gap between our scores mean?
Usually memory rather than disagreement. Every statement asks about the two of you, so in principle both scores should match; each box is worth two points, which means a 20-point gap is ten milestones one of you counted and the other did not. The common causes are vague items — what counts as a trip, an argument, a proper date — and one partner reading a statement as 'we planned this' where the other reads 'this happened to us'. Go back to the statements you scored differently; that list is the useful output.
Does it ask about anything we did before we met?
No. All 50 statements begin with "Have you two", so the list only counts things the pair of you have done together — nothing either of you did with anyone else appears anywhere in it, and neither of your scores can be lowered by an ex. For the personal version, take the 100-question test separately and compare those two numbers instead.
Is this a compatibility test?
It is not, and it has never been validated as one. What it does well is give you a neutral list of subjects to react to, which is easier than starting the conversation cold. Couples usually get more out of the items they hesitated over than out of the final numbers.
Should we tell each other the answers, not just the score?
Only as far as both of you want to. The single number is the safe version: it reveals how much of the list you have covered without naming any of it. Agree before you start whether you are sharing totals only or going through items, so nobody is put on the spot after the fact.
