Rice Purity Test score 4: Off the Charts

Is 4 a good score?

There is no good or bad Rice Purity Test score. 4 means 96 of the 100 items were checked and 4 were left unchecked: the test opens at 100 and removes a point for each item you have done, so the number counts situations you have been in, not merit. Two people on 4 can have checked completely different items.

Nearly everything on the list applied — the floor of the test.

A single-digit score means answering yes to almost every statement the list contains, including the arrest, hard-drug and high-risk items.

What checking 96 boxes actually covers

Scoring 4 means 96 of the 100 questions were answered yes. The list escalates as it goes, so a 4 usually covers all of romance & dating, parties & nightlife, online & modern life, alcohol & drugs, rule-breaking & mischief and law & consequences, with sexual experience partly checked.

Where 96 checks reach on the classic list

  • 94.Had anal sex?
  • 95.Had a pregnancy scare?
  • 96.Impregnated someone or been impregnated?

97.Paid or been paid for a sexual act? — the first item a 4 leaves unchecked.

Question order is fixed, so this is where the count lands, not a guess about you.

A 4 sits 46 points below the halfway mark of the scale, so more of the questionnaire is checked than not.

What a 4 rules out

4 is reachable on all seven lists here, but it costs a different amount of life on each: 96 ticks on a hundred-item list like the Rice Purity Test, and 48 on a fifty-item one like the College Purity Test, where every tick costs two points. Same number, half the statements.

At 96 checks there is no block of the questionnaire left untouched: the count has reached every section, from the opening romance questions to the last items on the sheet. That is what separates the bottom of the scale from the rest of it — not intensity, but coverage.

On the band chart, 4 sits 4 points into Off the Charts (0–9). Nothing sits below it: this is the bottom of the chart. One fewer would have been 5, and 10 is where Veteran begins.

Which parts of the list 96 checks can come from

Only 40 of the 100 statements sit outside the sexual block, so 96 checks means at least 56 of them are sexual items — that part is arithmetic, not inference. Each block below links to its opening question, and every statement has its own page.

One point either way

Is 4 a bad Rice Purity Test score?

No, and not because 4 is a comfortable number — because “bad” is not something this scale measures. It counts how many of 100 statements you have done, one point each, with the heaviest item on the sheet worth exactly what holding hands is worth. 4 means 96 statements applied to you and 4 did not. That is the entire claim it makes.

What it cannot tell you is which 96. Two people on 4 can have ticked entirely different statements — the score is a count, so it holds the number and drops the rest. If you are comparing yourself to someone, the comparison is only meaningful against a score from the same 100-statement list, and even then it compares two counts, not two lives.

How far 4 sits from the edges of Off the Charts

Ticks to leave it—nothing below this band

Off the Charts is the bottom of the scale, so there is no band left to fall into: 4 more of the 100 statements would take the score to zero, and zero is where the list runs out. The direction is one-way in any case — the statements are past tense, so a checked one stays checked and a retake can only ever move the number down.

Questions people actually ask

What does a Rice Purity Test score of 4 mean?

4 falls in the Off the Charts band.

Is 4 a bad Rice Purity Test score?

No — "bad" is not a property the scale has. 4 means 96 of the 100 statements applied to you and 4 did not, at one point each, with no statement weighted above another. It is a count of experiences on one particular list, not a rating of them, and it cannot say which 96 you ticked.

How many more questions would move a 4 out of the Off the Charts band?

None — Off the Charts runs from 0 to 9 and nothing sits below it. 4 more ticks would reach zero, which is where the list runs out.

How many questions does a score of 4 mean you checked?

96. Each of the 100 statements is worth one point, so the score is 100 minus the number of boxes ticked.
