Rice Purity Test score 9: Off the Charts

Is 9 a good score?

There is no good or bad Rice Purity Test score. 9 means 91 of the 100 items were checked and 9 were left unchecked: the test opens at 100 and removes a point for each item you have done, so the number counts situations you have been in, not merit. Two people on 9 can have checked completely different items.

Nearly everything on the list applied — the floor of the test.

A single-digit score means answering yes to almost every statement the list contains, including the arrest, hard-drug and high-risk items.

What checking 91 boxes actually covers

Scoring 9 means 91 of the 100 questions were answered yes. The list escalates as it goes, so a 9 usually covers all of romance & dating, parties & nightlife, online & modern life, alcohol & drugs, rule-breaking & mischief and law & consequences, with sexual experience partly checked.

Where 91 checks reach on the classic list

  • 89.Attended an orgy?
  • 90.Had two or more distinct acts of sexual intercourse with two or more people within 24 hours?
  • 91.Had sexual intercourse with five or more partners?

92.Been photographed or filmed during sexual intercourse by yourself or others? — the first item a 9 leaves unchecked.

Question order is fixed, so this is where the count lands, not a guess about you.

A 9 sits 41 points below the halfway mark of the scale, so more of the questionnaire is checked than not.

What a 9 rules out

9 is an odd number, and four of the seven lists on this site hold 50 questions worth two points each — they can only land on even totals. So a 9 cannot have come from the Teen Purity Test, Couples Purity Test, College Purity Test, LGBTQ Purity Test. It is reachable on Rice Purity Test (91 ticks), Innocence Test (91 ticks) and AO3 Purity Test (91 ticks).

At 91 checks there is no block of the questionnaire left untouched: the count has reached every section, from the opening romance questions to the last items on the sheet. That is what separates the bottom of the scale from the rest of it — not intensity, but coverage.

On the band chart, 9 sits 9 points into Off the Charts (0–9). Nothing sits below it: this is the bottom of the chart. One fewer would have been 10, and 10 is where Veteran begins.

Which parts of the list 91 checks can come from

Only 40 of the 100 statements sit outside the sexual block, so 91 checks means at least 51 of them are sexual items — that part is arithmetic, not inference. Each block below links to its opening question, and every statement has its own page.

One point either way

Is 9 a bad Rice Purity Test score?

No, and not because 9 is a comfortable number — because “bad” is not something this scale measures. It counts how many of 100 statements you have done, one point each, with the heaviest item on the sheet worth exactly what holding hands is worth. 9 means 91 statements applied to you and 9 did not. That is the entire claim it makes.

What it cannot tell you is which 91. Two people on 9 can have ticked entirely different statements — the score is a count, so it holds the number and drops the rest. If you are comparing yourself to someone, the comparison is only meaningful against a score from the same 100-statement list, and even then it compares two counts, not two lives.

Ticks to leave it—nothing below this band

Off the Charts is the bottom of the scale, so there is no band left to fall into: 9 more of the 100 statements would take the score to zero, and zero is where the list runs out. The direction is one-way in any case — the statements are past tense, so a checked one stays checked and a retake can only ever move the number down.

Questions people actually ask

What does a Rice Purity Test score of 9 mean?

9 falls in the Off the Charts band.

Is 9 a bad Rice Purity Test score?

No — "bad" is not a property the scale has. 9 means 91 of the 100 statements applied to you and 9 did not, at one point each, with no statement weighted above another. It is a count of experiences on one particular list, not a rating of them, and it cannot say which 91 you ticked.

How many more questions would move a 9 out of the Off the Charts band?

None — Off the Charts runs from 0 to 9 and nothing sits below it. 9 more ticks would reach zero, which is where the list runs out.

How many questions does a score of 9 mean you checked?

91. Each of the 100 statements is worth one point, so the score is 100 minus the number of boxes ticked.
