Rice Purity Test score 98: Pure Soul

Is 98 a good score?

There is no good or bad Rice Purity Test score. 98 means 2 of the 100 items were checked and 98 were left unchecked: the test opens at 100 and removes a point for each item you have done, so the number counts situations you have been in, not merit. Two people on 98 can have checked completely different items.

A handful of the mildest statements applied, and nothing beyond them.

A score this close to the ceiling comes from the opening romance statements. The drinking, sexual and law-breaking questions are still untouched.

What checking 2 boxes actually covers

Scoring 98 means 2 of the 100 questions were answered yes. The list escalates as it goes, so those checks usually sit inside romance & dating and stop there.

Where 2 checks reach on the classic list

  • 1.Held hands romantically?
  • 2.Been on a date?

3.Been in a relationship? — the first item a 98 leaves unchecked.

Question order is fixed, so this is where the count lands, not a guess about you.

A 98 sits 48 points above the halfway mark of the scale, so more of the questionnaire is still unchecked than checked.

What a 98 rules out

98 is reachable on all seven lists here, but it costs a different amount of life on each: 2 ticks on a hundred-item list like the Rice Purity Test, and 1 on a fifty-item one like the College Purity Test, where every tick costs two points. Same number, half the statements.

Because the order of the questions is fixed, 2 checks leaves 6 blocks of the questionnaire untouched from the first item to the last: sexual experience (60 questions, first at 12), parties & nightlife (5 questions, first at 15), online & modern life (3 questions, first at 32), alcohol & drugs (7 questions, first at 44), rule-breaking & mischief (4 questions, first at 47) and law & consequences (8 questions, first at 59). A 98 says nothing about any of them, which is worth remembering before reading the number as a description of somebody.

On the band chart, 98 sits 3 points into Pure Soul (95–99). 4 more checks move it down to 94 and into Mostly Innocent. One fewer would have been 99, and 100 is where Untouched begins.

Which parts of the list 2 checks can come from

All 2 checks could sit outside the sexual block, since 40 of the 100 statements do. Whether they actually do is the part a score cannot tell you. Each block below links to its opening question, and every statement has its own page.

One point either way

Is 98 a bad Rice Purity Test score?

No, and not because 98 is a comfortable number — because “bad” is not something this scale measures. It counts how many of 100 statements you have done, one point each, with the heaviest item on the sheet worth exactly what holding hands is worth. 98 means 2 statements applied to you and 98 did not. That is the entire claim it makes.

What it cannot tell you is which 2. Two people on 98 can have ticked entirely different statements — the score is a count, so it holds the number and drops the rest. If you are comparing yourself to someone, the comparison is only meaningful against a score from the same 100-statement list, and even then it compares two counts, not two lives.

How far 98 sits from the edges of Pure Soul

Above the floor3Pure Soul starts at 95
Below the ceiling1Pure Soul ends at 99
Ticks to leave it4and Mostly Innocent begins

Only one of those three numbers can ever change. The list is past tense, so a checked statement stays checked and a retake can move the score down and never up — Untouched, which starts at 100, is behind you for good. Ticking 4 more of the 100 statements would put you at 94, the top of Mostly Innocent.

Questions people actually ask

What does a Rice Purity Test score of 98 mean?

98 falls in the Pure Soul band. Scoring 98 means 2 of the 100 questions were answered yes. The list escalates as it goes, so those checks usually sit inside romance & dating and stop there.

Is 98 a bad Rice Purity Test score?

No — "bad" is not a property the scale has. 98 means 2 of the 100 statements applied to you and 98 did not, at one point each, with no statement weighted above another. It is a count of experiences on one particular list, not a rating of them, and it cannot say which 2 you ticked.

How many more questions would move a 98 out of the Pure Soul band?

4. Pure Soul runs from 95 to 99, so ticking 4 more of the 100 statements takes the score to 94, the top of Mostly Innocent. It cannot move the other way: the statements are past tense, so a checked one stays checked.

How many questions does a score of 98 mean you checked?

2. Each of the 100 statements is worth one point, so the score is 100 minus the number of boxes ticked.
